A certain not complicated character flaw

I have recently been binge-watching the A Certain Magical Index series on Crunchyroll. It's a long series with a weird timeline, mainly due to the fact that the airing date and actual event timeline in the show don't line up perfectly. However since there are many shows like this, there is a simplified viewing order for new viewers that's purpose is to be able to watch it chronologically enough without messing up the airing order too much, and getting the best experience possible. The start of this viewing order was actually its sister show A Certain scientific railgun, which follows a female side character of the main show and her name is Misaka Mikoto.

A short non-spoiler summary (at least so far because I'm not done with it yet) of is the series: the A Certain Magical Index series is set in the highly advanced academy city that's home to students across the world that possess various abilities that are ranked on a system from 0-5 five being the strongest, whereas 0 cant use any ability that they may possess, these people with abilities are known as "espers". Toma Ryuji the main character of A Certain Magical Index is a level zero who goes to the remedial class that the city holds, who is believed by some to be a jinx because of how noticeably unlucky he is. He states at the beginning of the show however that he believes this has to do with his ability that the city has no idea about but is later know to be called the limit breaker, where any power that comes in contact with his right becomes completely neutralized, and he says that maybe his entire life worth of luck got put in his right hand which is why he is so unlucky. He later acknowledges he doesn't truly believe this because sees himself as a person of science, just as most others who live in the city see themselves. This is why when Toma discovers that there is magic in the world that he lives in, he is quite surprised, even more so when how he came across this knowledge was from a young foreign priestess named Index attempting to break into his house for food. The story then follows the two of them and their dangerous magical adventures, where they defeat enemies and make new friends. One of these friends the ranked number 3 out of the 7 level 5 espers in academy city, her name, Misaka Mikoto the Railgun of Tokiwadai.

Misaka Mikoto the third-highest ranked esper in all of academy city is a well-known celebrity in her city, although still treated like a normal middle school student. She is honestly my favorite character in the whole franchise, and a lot of the fanbase has the same feeling. Misaka in A Certain scientific railgun is an awesome character and a very well-written female character in my opinion. She does a great job of showing that a girl can be tuff and feminine (I don't know a better way to put it) at the sea time, and being capable of doing literally ANYTHING she's an unstoppable force. She goes through this incredible and emotional arc that was extremely suffocating for her that changes her a lot and is my favorite part i the series so far. The problem I have however after watching the first two season of A Certain Scientific Railgun and have now as recommend moved on to the first season of A Certain Magical Index is how differently they used Misaka.

In A Certain Magical Index the main character and horine of A Certain Scientific Railgun is very much wasted and goes from a complex well written two arguably three dimensional character to flat out one dimensional who is clearly only used as a comedic relief and romantic interest for Toma. For e this incrediblly annoying on meany levels. Now don't get me wrong I really like Toma and I deffenently ship the two of them together, but that isn't an exscues to not let her shine. I feel like the main reasons why its written like this is one they don't want a side character to be notcibly better than the main character, and then also because I'm pretty sure the two shows don't have completely identicle teams. Then there's the hare troap that many anime follow which is basically any female character with speaking lies has to fall for the male main character, and then just become stupid he ever they are on the screen together. which doest fit the epic scifi, fanstacy, action packed, drama, with romantic elements that I started watching. So I'm excited to watch the last season of Railgun and get back to cool Misaka, and hopefully season two of index wont be the same since it was broadcaster after season one of railgun so fingure crossed I guess.

Pleasae excuse any spelling or grammar mistakes, and thank you for reading.
