The Promised Neverland and its portrayal of female characters

First off I'm going to say if you haven't seen Promised Neverland yet please do because it is honestly one of the best anime to come out of  2019 and season two is supposed to be coming out this January so nows the perfect time, however, if you have a week stomach or get scared easily I wouldn't recommend watching it alone. But I'm not here to talk about just why it's so great or why I love it so much, I'm here to tell about the very interesting way female characters have used are portrait why I find it so interesting and different it is from the rest of the anime industry.

There are three elements I want to cover and two of them are around specific characters, those are the main protagonist Emma, the main antagonist Sophia aka "Mother", and the dystopian world they live in. I'm going to start with the world and will say that this is the first and only *spoiler warning* in this paragraph. Promised Neverland is set in the not so distant future of 2045, in this future humans are no longer the dominant species and have completely been taken over by a society of human eating demons. In this future children are taken to farms as babies soo after birth are told that they are orphans who live an orphanage. In a orphanage there a single adult women is in charge of the entire grounds called the "Mother", and in some cases there is lesser ranked assistant called a "Sister". It is the Mother and Sisters job to produce the best children possible, by making sure the children have peaceful happy lives without ever knowing truth of whats past the gates that hold them in. This is because these human eating demons mainly feast on the brain, because of this the children under go test to check there levels of intelligence and an unexplained unit of happiness. The children are then "adopted" once they turn 6 or 12, depending on how high there score is when they are 6 if it isn't very high by that time then they get shipped out. However if the child is a girl and has made it to the age of 12 they are given a choice once greeted to the gates and told the truth of the world that they live in, they can either be harvested or under go training and have a child so that they can become a mother in a farm once they are old enough. The main point of this I wanted to talk about is the plot point of this being in the show, I fin it extremely interesting, but its the fact of importance of needing to keep the female humans to help there own separate society survive.

The next part I want to talk about is Emma who is the main protagonist of the show, she is introduced as one of the top three highest scoring kids along with her two friends Ray and Norman, they also mention how she is the most athletic of the three. Her character revolves around her leader ship role as well her since of compassion with her importance of family. But above all that makes her stand out in the media shes presented in is her level of pure resilience. *Spoiler* when she first finds out the truth about the orphanage she is imidaly determined to escape with everyone and no one left behind. Even after finding the dead body of one her friends and seeing one of the demons up close, and on top of that findingout the women who raised her for her entire life has only bee doing so to sell her off, she did give up through any of. This is something that I find isn't done a lot of the time in this industry and when its done so well like it is here its just so captivating. Most of the time a male character will end up saving the female character even if she is the hero of the story, where here its often the other way around with her saving Norman and Ray. My absolute favorite part that just shows why I like her so much as a character is *Spoiler* on the last episode when they make there escape, and Ray ask her if her leg has healed yet after being broken by Mother, and then she throughs down her cruches and stomps her leg to show that's its been healed and shes been faking it, all while keeping the same hard look her face. AND SHES 11 BRO LIKE.

Lastly I want to talk about who would be my favorite character if she wasn't so much of a complete evil genius, I'm pretty sure she won anime villain of the year last year as well, like she is such a perfect villain. She strong, she is violent, she is cunning, she is a genius, she is deceiving and on top of this she is ruthless. I really don't want to get into her speffics too much because I feel bad for putting spoilers in this blog post I want you guys to watch this if you haven't. But, main things are the fact that she is a women villain and with a real purpose and not just one dimensional either. We find out why shes really doing all of this and not just survival or greed. We are also able to see what all she is capable of being able to out smart the 3 time and time again always leading them right into some trap. Plus the idea that she needed to be a woman to fit into this needed motherly paternal figure, to allow the kids to trust her I think is just added ginus to the writing and the character.

Well mainly I hope you watch Promised Neverland, its available under most streaming services I'm pretty sure (but you know there's always the alternative *wink*). It's truly a good show if your looking for a great female leads and just interesting story in gerneral.

As always thanks for reading and please excuse any errors you might while reading sorry about those. BYE! and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
